WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?

What Are You Looking At?

Author: Sherry Heard

Did you realize that God has given us a gift that through our eyesight we can become what we look upon? Let's go back to Genesis chapter 3 when Eve was tempted by the serpent to gaze upon the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Because her inner eyes were not open, she did not understand the true nature of what she was looking upon. She gazed upon it and ate and became a creature filled with death.

Look at Jacob in Gen 30:37-39. He understood the principle of becoming what one looks upon. This is also in the New Testament in 2 Corinthians 3:18. "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." From these scriptures it is very clear that it is extremely important for us as Christians to be very thoughtful of what we are looking upon.

What do you spend the majority of your time looking at (gazing upon)? Before I was taught this lesson I would have said television. Today I have to say my computer, which has many of the same negative traits.

1. Television is controlled by Satan. Satan is the prince of the power of the air and as such has taken control of the medium of television. Ephesians 2:2

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Think of some of the program plots: murder, adultery, theft, vices, and white witchcraft.

2. Satanic anointing on television transforms it into an idol. Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." We spend hours watching our friend the TV, but have no time to pray, "It is too late now, I have to get up for work" but I had the time to watch that last show. If it comes between us and a closer walk with God it is an idol.

3. Television is destructive to family life How many families eat dinner together and talk over the events of the day? How many families eat while watching

the TV? How many families have dinner in separate rooms so they can watch their own favourite show?

4. Television has a corrupting influence on the morals of children. Children are unable to separate the images they see from real life. Researchers have discovered that if the first degree of intelligence, which is a man's living, loving, choosing intelligence, is not developed in the first three or four years of a child's life he is deformed and disabled for the rest of his life and can never learn to his fullest capacity.1

5. Television is destructive to the physical body. Look at the number of children whose eyesight has been affected by watching too much TV. Are we not couchpotatoes when we get together with our friend the TV? We know we should be more active, but we sit and watch one more show.

6. Television advertising exerts an evil influence we feel we must keep up with what "everyone else" is buying, because we saw it on TV. We think the things advertised will make us as beautiful or handsome as the person selling it.

7. Television is a thief of time "Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is." Ephesians 5:14-17
The time we waste in front of the TV can never be regained. We only have a few short years to spend with our children.

Do we want to teach them to spend so much time in front of the TV?

8. Television is deceitful. It lures even Christians in to watch the "good shows", but before you know it you are watching the violence too.

Don't get me wrong TV in and of itself could be a wonderful thing, but in it's current state under Lucifer it is death and destruction.

Judas 1:24-25

Amen.
